The British Council and Pedagogical Institute of Rhineland-Palatinate are pleased to provide an opportunity for English teachers to complete online modules with British Council Teaching for Success certification. Active participants on these online modules will be given priority for e-sessions and face-to-face conferences in the wider programme of events with the British Council to follow.
In 2020 you can already sign up for the following modules:

1) Understanding classroom language
2) Engaging with pronunciation

These modules are particularly suitable for colleagues working with younger students at the levels from A1 to A2+ and for those who have less than five years of experience in teaching English.

Each module takes between 2 and 3 hours. After completing the online module asynchronously at your own pace, you will receive a British Council certificate.

Understanding classroom language

The aim of this module is to provide effective strategies to start and finish lessons. The module identifies elements that make up the start of a lesson and considers how to develop and promote social language in class.
By the end of this module participants will be able to:
• define how lessons are started and finished
• identify elements and phrases that can be used to start a lesson
• develop ways to promote social language when starting and finishing a class
• evaluate the success of language used to start and finish lessons.

Engaging with pronunciation: techniques and activities

The aim of this module is to help participants understand how to integrate pronunciation practice in the classroom. The module looks at various aspects of pronunciation including stress, intonation and features of connected speech. They experience and evaluate activities and are given the opportunity to plan how to integrate pronunciation activities with other aspects of language learning.
By the end of this module the participants will be able to:
• identify features of connected speech
• describe techniques to raise learners’ awareness of aspects of pronunciation
• evaluate a range of pronunciation activities
• integrate pronunciation activities with other aspects of language learning.

Module access and certification is free for teachers working in Rhineland-Palatinate but numbers are limited.

The dates below indicate the duration of the modules, rather than any obligation to be online at a certain time. In order to ensure successful registration please sign up as early as possible in November 2020. Once you receive your access to the British Council modules, you will be able to complete your work on the modules self-access content until June 2021. Please note: as the number of participants is limited, inactivity for several months could lead to a termination of your access without certification.
