Engaging with CLIL – supporting output and interaction

Structure and time commitment: ca. 2-3 hours of self-study required to complete a total of three units
Unit 1 / Supporting spoken and written output
This unit highlights how a combination of well-designed task sheets, effective use of the whiteboard and the teacher’s own targeted use of language can all support the learner’s spoken and written production, consolidating the learner’s BICS (Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills) but also providing the opportunities for CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency).
Unit 2 / Interaction patterns
This second unit focusses on the various forms of interaction, including options for the learner to work in pairs and groups, as well as other formats such as teacher lectures, pupil presentations and individual assignments.
Unit 3 / Facilitating collaborative learning
This final unit addresses some of the practical issues of collaborative learning and identifies the main features through a reflective framework.
