This English-Only conference aims to explore innovative strategies for integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the English language classroom: a hands-on approach followed by an expert workshop.

In the morning, participants will be invited to actively engage in a Climate Fresk workshop conducted in English. This method involves understanding the content of the IPCC report on climate change by visualizing the issues and their underlying causes using a set of cards. The objective of this workshop is to raise awareness of climate change science. No prior training is required to participate.

In the afternoon, Chris Sowton, the British Council’s guest expert speaker from the UK, will offer a workshop with some forward-looking strategies of teaching sustainability.
The climate crisis. The impact of Covid-19. The war in Ukraine. At no point in global history has there been a greater need for the world to come together to identify solutions to these huge challenges – and yet sometimes this ambition often feels further away than ever. Drawing on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals framework, this face-to-face workshop will look at positive, forward-looking strategies which can be easily implemented into your teaching practice to help realize classrooms, schools, and communities which are fairer, greener, more equitable, and more sustainable. In this workshop, we’ll be looking both at general strategies which any teacher or school can use for immediate impact, as well as looking specifically at some of the particular value-added strategies which language teachers can employ.
