British Council Online Modules (CLIL-Module 1)


The British Council and Pedagogical Institute of Rhineland-Palatinate (PL) offer are pleased to provide another opportunity for teachers of English to complete online modules with British Council Teaching for Success certification.
Over the summer 2022 you can sign up via the PL Veranstaltungskatalog for either one or both of the two modules on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) below. The PL numbers of the modules are 221325BC03 Understanding CLIL – guiding input and 221325BC04 "Engaging with CLIL – supporting output and interaction".
You will receive an automated confirmation of your course registration from the British Council at the start of the new school year in September and your online module access will commence after that.
Each module is made up of a total of three units and takes between two and three hours of self-study to complete. After working through the content asynchronously at your own pace, you will receive a British Council certificate.

Understanding CLIL – guiding input.

Structure and time commitment: ca. 2-3 hours of self-study required to complete a total of three units
Unit 1 / Supporting BICS
This unit raises awareness of Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) and how the success of a lesson depends on role modelling the target language through regular teacher learner together with learner-learner interactions during class in order for pupils to understand and produce the target language.
Unit 2 / Instructions, monitoring and feedback
This second unit focusses on the teacher language required to support the management of a lesson by using instructions that are appropriate to the level of the learners as well as being clear and precise and in a sequence that makes sense for the task.
Unit 3 / Support tasks in CLIL
The final unit looks in detail at the various lesson phases such as pre-, during- and ost listening/reading tasks, and the use of recapping questions together with recycling and extension of tasks to support the language input.
